Soie de Lune is a London-based company that was founded in 2004. It has its own workshop in Vientiane, Laos, a country in South East Asia famous for its hand weaving skills. Soie de Lune's double mission is to create unrivaled fabrics of quality and to join those helping to revive the area’s hand weaving, a centuries-old tradition in danger of being lost in the world of mass-production.
Soie de Lune began by weaving sumptuous shawls and scarves and was soon discovered by interior designers who asked the company to weave for their clients’ residential projects. In 2009 the company decided to focus on weaving yardage, exclusively for interior designers, changing its production methods to ensure a scalable and reproducible output of fabric. All our hand-looms weave fabric at 120cm or 47” widths.
At our workshop, the process of fabric creation is manual, echoing days gone by when each house had its own loom and when each mother taught her daughter the skills of weaving. Today we continue this tradition as our young team of artisans, from our dyers to our weavers, follows the fabric creation process taught to them by their parents in villages throughout the country.
